It is with deep sorrow that we share the unexpected death of Pastor Hugo Moya, 55, who passed away after a tragic accident while working on repairs at Iglesia Misionera Cristo Vive. He went home to our Lord Saturday, April 10, 2021.

Hugo was a calm, bright, and steady force in his family, community, and the church. He brought revitalization everywhere he went, offering spiritual healing, providing for physical needs, sparking joy and laughter, and fixing anything—from vehicles + construction to relationships.

Hugo’s true calling was as a pastor, and he dedicated his life to the church. Pastor Hugo and Eunice founded Iglesia Misionera Cristo Vive in 1999, and they served together in ministry for over 30 years. During this time, Hugo attended Instituto Biblico Bethel to earn a diploma in Theology. He was a skilled pastor, using his gifts to serve in ministry in a variety of ways: preaching, teaching, prayer, evangelism, church planting, missionary work, leading family support groups, pastoral training, humanitarian relief, essentials distribution, hosting a radio show, and so much more.

Wherever there was a need, Pastor Hugo would find a way to meet it. He served not only as pastor of his church but also traveled as a missionary throughout the regions of South Texas and North and Central Mexico. He is described by his family and friends as a visionary and dreamer, a mobilizer, a leader, humble, strong, devoted, loving, and a bringer of revival. He was faithful to his calling, tending to the work the Lord gave him to do by bringing people to Christ and building the Kingdom of God here on earth. He gave everything to serve the Lord, as evidenced by his devotion to his calling and the legacy he leaves in his work, ministry, and family.

It is because of this great legacy that we ask for your support in continuing the work that he started. It is impossible to fill the gap that Hugo has left, and he will never be replaced, and yet, all those who knew him feel a deep responsibility to carry the mission forward, especially in his work of advancing the church.

Therefore, we ask you to prayerfully consider a memorial gift in one of three categories: personal family needs, ministry needs, or church building needs, each outlined below.

Personal family needs:

This money will go toward funeral expenses, medical costs, and ongoing support for his wife, Eunice Moya as she continues to live out her life of ministry and service.

Ministry needs:

Any gifts offered to this category will be used in support of furthering the church mission, including supplies for food distribution, serving at the shelters, vehicle costs, Bibles and other resources, church space rental, and any other costs that may arise in service of the church.

Church building needs:

One of Hugo’s greatest dreams was to provide a church building for the community he built. Though he served as Pastor at Iglesia Misionera Cristo Vive for the last 25 years, the church has met in a variety of locations, including Hugo and Eunice’s home. Just last year, he purchased the land on which he hoped to construct the church building he had dreamt of. It is only fitting that he lost his life in service of that dream—that calling—to provide a physical and spiritual home for the people of the community.

Any gifts provided for this category will be used to complete the construction of the church building on the property.
